Sustainable Driftless Announces New Driftless Project
The ancient, naturally sculpted landscape of the Driftless Region has long inspired both the art and science of photography. Building on its acclaimed work, Decoding the Driftless, Sustainable Driftless, Inc. is proud to announce a new curated print project: Driftless in Time — Capturing the Moment
This thoughtfully assembled volume brings together regional photographers and writers to explore, through image and word, the fragility, resilience, and singular beauty of the place we call the Driftless—and home.
To accomplish this legacy edition, we need FRIENDS and SPONSORS to help make this gorgeous volume a reality!
SPONSORS–either individuals or business–sponsorships of the project are needed now– $500, $1000, $5000, $10,000 or $20,000–all are appreciated and together, will cover: preprint production, printing, and the creation of this limited-edition photobook.
Each sponsorship adds up and will distribute them in many ways–to reach kids, adults, clients, and visitors. We need to raise $60K by the end of June of this year to hit our goals, and with our thanks, and appreciation, you will help tell others the story of the Driftless Region–helping more visitors and residents and kids understand, appreciate, and to be motivated to sustainably grow while protecting this region.
Sponsors will have their name, and corporate logo prominently listed within the book, on the SDI website, and in various media in the promotion of the publication. In addition, a special invite to the celebratory launch and signing party when the books arrive, along with our grateful thanks. Sponsors have access to books commensurate with their sponsorship: for their own distribution–friends or clients–or to donate their lot to schools, libraries, or Sustainable Driftless for sale. You let us know your priorities, and we will make it happen!
Another way to support the publication will be in pre orders of individuals and small business--what we are calling FRIENDS.
FRIENDS will reserve their own books now through June 30th, –receive a book for each $100 purchase, a membership, and a fun opportunity to pick up your book via a signing party event. Each $100 presale supports the project, and a thank you in the book itself--a great gift, or way to honor someone you love and who loves the Driftless Region!
You can be a much appreciated supporter of a more Sustainable Driftless, and of the work we do through your financial donation to the project, and preorders of "Driftless in Time: Capturing the Moment".
More than a book, Driftless in Time is both an exploration and a lasting keepsake. This larger format, limited-edition print publication will debut in 2026, furthering SDI’s mission of education and engagement across ages and audiences through storytelling, art, and shared appreciation of place.

Sponsors and Friends to this project will play a crucial role in creating a large volume "coffee table" book filled with written and photographic perspectives that will inspire and connect the reader to the Driftless.
It will serve as both a gift to the Driftless Region and a historical and cultural record for generations to come.
Each sponsorship level will receive copies of the "Driftless in Time: A Photographers Journey". It will be the first in a series of large format coffee table books about our region. Our goal is to share the story of the Driftless, and by doing so, increase the respect needed for a sustainable future of this fragile and resilient, environment.
Sponsors will receive--for their own use and distribution—a cache of books that can serve as awards, gifts, or marketing materials for your organization, or as donations to publicly accessible locations, or help Sustainable Driftless continue to inspire through our own sales networks.
Friends of the project, for each $100 PRE ORDER, will receive a book, and their own name or that of a loved one, in the book.
Your gift will be noted in the book itself, highlighting your and your business' foresight, commitment to sustainable and community minded efforts, as well as your generosity.

No contribution is too small; every dollar counts towards making a lasting change. However, we also need to distribute this book through your own network--reaching thousands more than we could alone! So yes, larger sponsors are needed and very much appreciated.

Q&A
Will these books be reprinted someday? These are first run, limited editions.
Are you providing for some way to make the content available online? Yes, we are considering how best to accomplish this goal as well, but only after the first run is completed and distributed.
We think this is a great way to share this with educators throughout the US and Canada and their students, and we hope to have them available via an online source to turn them page by page and be immersed in the Driftless!
What is the deadline for contributing? We hope to have all SPONSORS identified and included, and FRIENDS pre orders and monies collected between now and June 30th.
How will I receive my book(s)? Ideally you will come to the signing party this fall--celebrate, chat, and get your books signed by your favorites! We will announce the date and time on SDI's Facebook, and via email to you!
All funds received for this publication will be held and designated for the book only until we reach our fundraising goal of $65,000--THEN WE WILL GO TO PRINT! (And schedule our supporter signing party when the books arrive! We hope you will be joining us--expect a delightful way to meet and enjoy the success of this legacy project together!
